TRAFFIC INFORMATION

In connection with this year’s half marathon, the race route and several areas in the city centre will be closed to all traffic. Here you get an overview of how the BESTSELLER Aarhus City Half will affect traffic in Aarhus.

Leave the car at home

We recommend and encourage you to leave the car at home, as several roads and parking areas will be closed during the BESTSELLER Aarhus City Half. If it is necessary to travel by car, please refer to the driving routes in our traffic information.

On foot or by bike

One of the easiest ways to get around Aarhus is on foot or by bike. There are several crossing points along the route where it is possible to cross the road when runners are not passing.

TRAFFIC MAP
WITH RACE ROUTE & CLOSURE ZONES

At 9:00 AM, the entire race route will be closed to all traffic.

On the map to the right, you can see the city’s traffic closures during the half marathon. The coloured roads mark the race route, and the shaded areas indicate districts that are closed to all entry and exit traffic.

The times shown on the map indicate when the respective route sections and areas will reopen to traffic.

Frederiks Allé, marked in black, will be closed to traffic at 7:00 AM, and all other areas will be closed at 9:00 AM.

TRAFFIC OPTIONS DURING THE RACE

Get an overview of the traffic options during the half marathon on the map to the left.
Please refer here if you are travelling by car to or from the areas of Aarhus Central Station, Aarhus Bus Station, and Molslinjen during the half marathon.

  • The yellow route is the race route.
  • We recommend using the red route, as these roads remain open to traffic throughout the race.
  • The green route is open throughout the race, but we recommend avoiding it between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM. During this period, Vester Allé and Rådhuspladsen will be one-way with changing directions (managed by the police home guard). Public transport will be prioritised.
  • Ringgaden will remain open throughout the race.
  • Access to and from the ferry ports is possible via Marselis Boulevard throughout the race.
  • Access to Banegårdspladsen and Aarhus Bus Station is possible via Vester Allé and Rådhuspladsen, but is not recommended between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM.

LOCAL CLOSURES

The closure of city areas will change driving routes and one-way systems. Here you can get a local and detailed overview of how the half marathon affects traffic flow, one-way directions, and closures in your neighbourhood.

Impact on public transport in Aarhus

Almost all city bus routes in Aarhus will be affected by the half marathon between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM. The light rail will be suspended between Aarhus Central Station and Nørreport/Østbanetorvet from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You can find information about all changes on the Midttrafik website.

WE EXPECT QUEUES

Queues are expected in central Aarhus, which is why we recommend either cycling or using public transport.

GOOD TO KNOW

CUT-OFF TIME

The maximum completion time for the BESTSELLER Aarhus City Half is 3 hours (net time). The 3-hour limit is monitored by officials. If you take longer than 3 hours, it is the participant’s own responsibility to follow the general traffic rules.

HEADPHONES

We recommend leaving your headphones at home so you can enjoy the music from the many entertainment spots and the fantastic atmosphere from the spectators. It also makes it easier to hear if other runners or medical personnel need to pass. This way, you get a safe and uninterrupted running experience on the course.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT

We do not recommend that children under the age of 14 participate in the 21.0975 km distance.

BABY JOGGER

As there are several narrow sections along the route, we advise against bringing a baby jogger or other wheeled equipment to the event out of consideration for the other runners.

SHOWERS AND CHANGING AFTER THE RACE

There are no shower or changing facilities available after the race.

TIMING

The finish time and split times are recorded automatically using a chip located on the back of your race number. The race number must be worn visibly on the front of your T-shirt and must not be folded or bent.

Split times will be recorded at 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, 20 km, and 21.0975 km.

  • The gross time is measured from the starting gun until you cross the finish line.
  • The net time is measured from when you cross the start line until you reach the finish line.

PACE SETTERS

At the BESTSELLER Aarhus City Half, the Garmin pace setters help you maintain your pace – always in high spirits and with plenty of support along the way. You can’t miss them in their orange T-shirts and with orange balloons indicating their finish time.

The pace setters include runners from Aarhus Fremad and AGF Life, and they are looking forward to running with you!
